The natural beauty of Maine has inspired many works of art. Creative souls from all over the world have traveled to Maine's Lakes and Mountains Region to capture the light and landscape in paintings, photographs and sculptures. The area has been a source of inspiration for many. Add a trip to our favorite local art destinations next time you are in Bridgton Maine.

Downtown Bridgton
Gallery 302
More than 40 exhibiting artists working in a variety of mediums make up the Bridgton Art Guild which owns and operates Gallery 302. The space is described as light and welcoming. In regular times the Gallery offers workshops and classes for beginners and advance artists. Stop by if you are shopping for a present for yourself or others, or if you simply want to see some lovely art.

Rufus Porter Museum
Founded in 2005, the Rufus Porter Museum of Art and Ingenuity, located in Bridgton, Maine, features the history of a remarkable 19th century New Englander, Rufus Porter (1792-1884) as well as other prominent Bridgton and New England folk artists. Porter is well-known in the folk-art community for his landscape murals and miniature portraits. For enthusiasts of early American life, it is a unique opportunity to see Porter's original murals, panels and inventions. The campus has 2 historic homes, John and Maria Webb House and The Nathan Church House. The gift shop has a nice selection of books and some handmade items from local artists. The Noble House Inn offers a lodging discount for guests that are taking classes at the Rufus Porter Museum.

Near By Norway
In nearby Norway, visit the Main Street Gallery and Matolcsy Art Center to see paintings, drawings, and jewelry from local artists. In the month of July, the Matolcsy Art center hosts the Norway Arts Festival where artists sell their sketches, drawings, and paintings that aren't being featured in exhibits.

Day Trip to Lewiston
In ordinary times, the doors are open for locals and kids to explore the Bates College Museum of Art. This small museum has an ever-changing display of exhibitions. The museum is located within the Olin Fine Arts building on campus, so there is an excitement of hearing rehearsals in the background and seeing students and faculty at work. Exhibits vary, check the website for upcoming exhibits and events before heading out. From May through October, on the last Friday of each month, the downtown area of Lewiston and Auburn transforms into an arts district known as Art Walk LA. This gathering showcases a variety of artists based on themes like comedy, storytelling, or poetry.

Whether you decide to do an art tour as a rainy day activity or as a delightful day trip, know that you will be welcomed back to warm hospitality at the Noble House Inn. After an enriching day of art relax on the wrap around porch which is ideal for encouraging the budding artist in us all. Order a bottle of wine from the wine list and relax.
